Hey all! When boiling up hamburger or frying ground meat, how do you get rid of the fat? I know we are not suppose to put it down the drain. What is your best solution?
I've never heard of not putting fat down the drain. My dad's a plumber and he never told me not to do this. If you do pour fat down a drain, make sure to run very hot water so the fat won't harden in your drain. I do this all the time and have never had a problem with my drains.
You need the George Forman grill.
It has this little pan to catch the fat. You can put all sorts of meats on their.
Yeah, the George Foreman grill works wonders and cooks a splendid sausage, bacon rasher or hamburger in around 7 minutes. Just stick the drip tray under the front edge, as that is where all the fat goes when it's squeezed out of the food which is sandwiched between the plates (well in my grill anyway). Just wait till the fat goes hard, then either scrape it off the tray in to a small dish or bowl so you can re-use it for frying meat or eggs. Mum's told me off for emptying the tray down the sink as well as it really does block our drains.
Jen.
I've always been told never dump fat down the drain.
Thank you guys. I do have the george and am a big fan! I'm thinking of other times when not using the george. Cooking meat for tacos or other such dishes. I have consistently been told never put fat down the drain!
So far, my only idea is to strain it into a bowl, let it cool then toss away in trash.
That's similar to what I've done. Actually I just scoop out the meat after browning it, let the skillet cool, and then dispose of the fat.
Yeah, best to throw it out.
